I'm Chuck Wooters, Head of AI at Displace TV and Cofounder of Updaytr, LLC, based in the San Francisco Bay Area. My career has been dedicated to human language technology—building systems that understand, process, and generate human language.

My research and engineering work spans speech recognition, natural language processing, and machine learning. I'm passionate about pushing the boundaries of what AI systems can do with language.

Over 30 years in human language technology, spanning startups, big tech, academia, and government research:

  • Apple (Siri Team) — Implemented false-alarm mitigation for the "Hey Siri" wake-word
  • Microsoft/Semantic Machines — Built prototype full-duplex conversational AI; Semantic Machines was acquired by Microsoft in 2018
  • Computer Motion — Developed the first FDA-approved speech recognition system for surgical robots
  • ICSI — Led initial speaker diarization research; key contributor to the FrameNet lexical database
  • 8 US Patents in conversational AI and speech technology
  • Updaytr (Cofounder) — Voice-based AI platform converting phone calls into organized content, including Biografr, Ideatr, and Wizzenatr
